On April 19, 1932, David Powell Littlefield was born to Ray and Inez Littlefield at home on Texas Avenue in Houston, Texas. He was the youngest of three brothers (Virgil and Raymond). When David was five years old, the family moved to Brownwood, Texas, where his dad attended Howard Payne College. Two years later, the family moved to Waco, Texas, where his dad attended Baylor University, and his mom did secretarial work for President Pat Neff. David and his brothers enjoyed living just across from the entrance to Cameron Park, an 1100-plus-acre park – a wonderful place for three boys to explore and enjoy! It was in Waco, when David was 10 years old, that he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior during a Sunday worship service at the 7th and James Baptist Church. When David was 12, the family returned to Houston where he graduated from Lamar High School at age 17. At his uncle Paul Boynton’s request, he entered Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His uncle was president of SFA. After completing his initial year at SFA, David transferred to the University of Houston and completed his BBA in Management. Following his initial employment with Consolidated Chemical Industries (CCI), he continued graduate studies at the University of Houston. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in Massachusetts as a Radar Operator and Troop Information and Education Liaison at the NIKE Missile Base.
Following David’s discharge, he returned to CCI (now the Industrial Division of Stauffer Chemical Company) and was eventually transferred to the Division Office as Assistant Personnel Manager. In addition to David’s Human Resources background, his career included Management and Organizational Development, Consulting, and Teaching. He served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, Houston Community College System, the University of Texas-Arlington, and Tarrant County Community College System.
During David’s retirement years, he taught men to read through the Arlington READS Program, visited/encouraged patients at the Mansfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, served as the Lowe’s Farm HOA Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, and as a member of the Mansfield Historic Landmark Commission.
David and his wife, Barbara (deceased), have a blended family of four children (plus one daughter, deceased), 15 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. And, what a blessing they have been!
It became apparent that God was leading David to encourage and to touch/change lives for the Lord over the years. It was his pleasure to serve in leadership/teaching for CrossCity Baptist Church in Euless, Texas and, later, as an encourager to others at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield. His desire was to give God the glory in all that he did!
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates contributions to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church for use in their community mission outreach.
