Our beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, “Coach”, and friend, David Glen Hand (71), of Euless, Texas, entered his heavenly rest on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
David was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, on May 30, 1953, to Geraldine Dorsey and Edwin Hand, both of Georgia. As a Military Brat, he and his father received multiple scuba certifications, and David became an instructor in the Azores.
When they moved back to the States, David graduated from Trinity High School in Euless and then joined the Military. He was stationed in California and took the opportunity to start surfing. Nicknamed the “Texas Slalom”, his surfboard was a favorite behind the boats, as well as the ocean.
After his service to our nation, he attended UT Arlington where he received a teaching degree. He was hired and had a long career as a football coach at Gunn Junior High in Arlington. He loved working with the kids and winning City Championships for the Chomping Gators! His players and students loved him. They would stop him all over town to chat many years after graduation. Later, he pursued a second career as a licensed journeyman electrician. This completed his career, and he retired.
David was a good son and always available to help family and friends. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, his mother’s 5-flavored pound cake and his father’s homemade beef jerky. He loved congregating with friends and his nephew, who was close in age. “Partners in Fun” with pranks abounding, he, his nephew, and friends would have untold hours of fun playing all kinds of sports, night fishing under the bridges of Lake Texoma, and having foosball tournaments with Classic Rock ‘N’ Roll always in the background.
David loved spending time with his great-nephew, Kevin. They went for long golf cart rides and loved kayaking the lake. This was their special time together, and something they did as often as they could.
During his retirement years, he was able to spend quality time with his special friends, Kenny House and Nila. He loved them dearly and cherished their time together boating and riding four-wheelers on the beaches.
David is survived by his sister, Ann and brother-in-law Wes Eggleston of Winnsboro, Texas, along with many other loving relatives in Texas and multiple states. Thank you to everyone for your prayers, love, and support. We rejoice in the fact that this is a brief separation before we are all together again in our Father’s Kingdom.
It’s not “Good-Bye”; it’s “See You Soon!”
