Obituary

Cora B. Goins, a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and boundless love, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was born on March 22, 1936, in Clay County, Kentucky, to Thomas Gregory and Annie Minton Gregory.

Cora’s early life was marked by resilience and devotion to family. As a young girl, she made the selfless decision to leave school after the sixth grade to help care for her younger siblings at home. This spirit of sacrifice and care for others became the foundation of the life she lived.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Goins, and her siblings Oakley Gregory, Vasco Gregory, Eddie Mae Gregory, Julia Gregory Jones, Delia Gregory Hatfield, Steve Gregory, Ruby Gregory Goins, Sammie Gregory, Geneva Gregory Carpenter, and James Gregory.

She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Goins and Alita Garrett Goins; her cherished grandchildren, Amethyst Grace Goins McArthur and her husband James McArthur, and Anastasia Faith Goins Cline and her husband Michael Cline; and her precious great-grandchildren, Thalia Ann Cline and Memory Beth Cline. She is also survived by her siblings Lucy Gregory Goins and Denford Gregory, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Cora dedicated herself fully to her family as a stay-at-home mother until 1973, when her son began college. She then entered the workforce at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, where she faithfully served until 1999, ensuring cleanliness and safety in the surgery area with diligence and pride. After the passing of her husband in 2000, she moved to Texas to be closer to her beloved grandchildren. There, she continued her life of service, working part-time at her church caring for and cleaning children’s areas. She officially retired in December 2025 at the age of 89.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Ormsby Heights Baptist Church in Louisville from 1973 to 1999 and later became a cherished member of Rush Creek Church in Arlington, Texas, where she remained active from 2000 until her passing. She especially loved the people she served alongside and formed lasting bonds within her church family. Her missionary trips to El Salvador through Rush Creek Church reflected her compassionate spirit and willingness to serve wherever she was called.

Cora found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved cleaning and took great pride in her work. She delighted in watching plants grow, going on treasure-hunting trips to Goodwill, and embracing new experiences. Adventurous at heart, she often said she would try anything once—even dreaming of skydiving someday. She had a special love for children and brought warmth and kindness to every space she entered.

From her humble beginnings in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, Cora lived a life defined by courage, faith, and love. She truly had the heart of a lion and blessed all who knew her with her generosity and unwavering spirit.
