Christine Irwin Felton

Christine (Chris) Irwin Felton, 93 passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. A devoted wife, mother, and friend, Chris was known for her warmth, humor, and passion for living life to the fullest.

She was born during the Great Depression in Beaumont, Texas, to Frank and Estelle Irwin. After living in Florida and Georgia, she and her mother moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas, to be close to her extended family, following the death of her father.

Chris fondly remembered her happy childhood surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles, as well as many faithful friends, who she stayed in touch with throughout her life.

She met and married William (Bill) Felton in 1951, while attending East Texas State Teachers College. They welcomed their first child, a son in 1952, while earning a bachelor’s degree. Two more sons and a daughter soon followed.

In 1957, Chris and Bill moved their growing family to Arlington. Chris taught at the Arlington Country Day Montessori School for several years and eventually became Principal. She later became Director of the Early Childhood program at First United Methodist Church in Arlington, where she and her family had been members since moving to the city.

Chis loved traveling with Bill and friends on countless trips and cruises all over the world. She was a longtime member of the Wesley Progressors Sunday School class, the Arlington Women’s club, the Encore Club, and several bridge clubs.

Chris is survived by two sons, a daughter, and daughter-in-law. Frank and Jamie Felton of Dallas, Russ and Caye Felton of Mansfield, Ellen and Joe Speranza of Arlington, and daughter-in-law Deborah Felton of Arlington, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Felton, and oldest son, David Felton. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Arlington, 313 N. Center St, Arlington, Texas, 76011. Memorial offerings may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Arlington.
