Charles Ray Reynolds Sr.

January 25, 1938 — July 19, 2022

Charles “Chuck” Ray Reynolds Sr. passed away in the early morning hours of July 19, 2022 at the age of 84.

Chuck was born in Goldthwaite, TX on January 25th, 1938. He was the eighth of ten children and his jovial personality and quick wit helped him stand out, and get into trouble, among his seven brothers and two sisters. Chuck graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1957 and left his hometown to find his fortune and the love of his life in the big city of Arlington.

Following a charming encounter on a horse, Chuck married his beloved, and very patient, Elizabeth “Liz” in 1957. They were blessed with their son, Charles Ray Reynolds Jr (Little Chuck) in 1961.

After a short stint of selling magazines door to door, Chuck joined American Can as a factory worker until 1967. Gifted with unparalleled people skills, Chuck pursued his dream of running his own business. In 1967 he opened the first “Chuck’s Grocery” in South Arlington and it was a huge hit! Chuck’s grocery served an expanding Arlington community and whether it was groceries, “Chuck’s Famous Chicken,” or cashing a payroll check, Chuck made sure customers found what they needed and then some. After almost 40 years in the convenience store business and opening multiple stores, Chuck finally retired from the business in 2005. However, his love for people led him back to work. Chuck opened his own carpet cleaning company that served the community for many years and he thoroughly enjoyed selling antiques at multiple antique malls.

Also important in Chuck’s life was his faith. He was a long-time member of Fielder Church.

He was known as a charismatic usher and was treasured by his many friends in Sunday school class.

Chuck’s other love was taking care of and entertaining his two granddaughters. Whether he was showing his “darlings” how to drive a tractor, scratch off a lottery ticket or tend to donkeys and chickens, he was always the most beguiling babysitter and a truly adored Papa.

Chuck was a hard worker, beloved family man and a friend to all. His fun-loving nature and “devilish” charm will be dearly missed, but his legacy is one of always remembering to see the bright side of life with the ones that you love.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 64 years Elizabeth Reynolds, his son Chuck Reynolds Jr. and wife Holly Reynolds, and his two granddaughter’s Charlotte Rollin and Roxane Elizabeth Reynolds. In addition, Chuck is survived by his brothers Melvin and Jackie Reynolds and sister Marie Boggess. Chuck was preceded in death by his mother and dad, five brothers and one sister and his furry friend Bender.
