Charles Ritch Jones III was born August 16, 1939 in Mobile, Alabama to Ethel Kathleen (née Cox) and Charles Ritch Jones Jr.
Charles spent his formative years in Pensacola, Florida. Living along the Gulf Coast made for a childhood full of adventures. At age 14, he traveled on foot from Pensacola Beach to Fort Walton with a small group of fellow scouts, camping along the way. It was quite an accomplishment. He was very proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout for the Gulf Coast Council in 1954. The award ceremony was the first to be televised at the time on Pensacola’s Channel 3 station. Charles was an accomplished water skier and loved being on the Gulf’s water. He attended Pensacola High School before going on to Florida State University and Pensacola Junior College. It was in Pensacola that he met Maye Ellen Agee, a nursing student. They married in 1962 at St.Andrew Catholic Church in the bride’s hometown of Fort Worth, TX. As a family of three, soon to be four, they moved from Pensacola to Texas in 1965, calling Arlington home. The family grew to six by 1969.
After leaving his position at Continental National Bank in the early '80s, Charles joined Jack Godfrey & Sons, the franchise office for Comet Cleaners as general manager—a job he loved. After helping many other entrepreneurs open and run their own stores Charles & Maye Ellen, along with their eldest son opened their own Comet Cleaners storefront in Richardson, TX.
After Maye Ellen’s passing in 2004, Charles joined Winter Motor Co. and never enjoyed a job more. He loved everyone with whom he worked and organizing the weekly car auctions at Manheim.
Charles was an active member and former officer of Serra Club, a Knight Commander with Star The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a member of St. Patrick Cathedral parish, and involved in all his children’s lives. Charles always looked forward to his Pensacola High School Class of 1957 reunions. He attended every annual gathering he possibly could. He was a generous, kind, straight-forward man with a dry southern sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He had a fantastic group of friends who were always there, through thick and thin. He shared a lot of life and even more laughs with them.
