In Loving Memory of Brunilda Vazquez Melendez

With profound love and sadness, we announce the passing of Brunilda Vazquez Melendez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of God, who passed away peacefully in Texas on September 14, 2026, at the age of 80.

Brunilda was born on June 17, 1946, in the beautiful town of Yauco, Puerto Rico, to Ramon Vazquez Rodriguez and Ana Vega Lopez. She carried her Puerto Rican heritage proudly throughout her life, sharing its warmth, traditions, faith, food, music, and love with everyone around her.

Brunilda was a devout Catholic woman whose faith was the foundation of her life. She found comfort and strength in God and remained devoted to her Catholic faith throughout her journey. She was also a member of the Damas of St. Thomas Aquinas in Newark, New Jersey, where she shared fellowship and service with her faith community.

She was the beloved wife of the late Victor Melendez, with whom she built a life filled with family, love, sacrifice, and countless cherished memories.

Brunilda leaves behind her loving children, Dennis (Tammy Quenet) Melendez and Belkys (Paul Simon) Melendez, who were among the greatest joys of her life. She was a proud grandmother to Analise, Alexandra, Eric, Christian (CJ), Gabriella, and Eliana. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, and she poured her love, wisdom, and nurturing spirit into each of them.

She is also survived by her beloved siblings, Eva, Neyda, Myriam, Delia, Grande, Jaime, Efrain, and Wilson, and was preceded in death by her sister Edna. Her family was always at the center of her heart, and the bonds she shared with her loved ones were treasured beyond words.

Brunilda was a woman who knew how to make a house feel like home. She was family-oriented, loving, strong, and deeply nurturing. She was a firm mother who believed in teaching her children strong values, but she also knew when someone simply needed a listening ear. She offered a nonjudgmental heart, a comforting presence, and the kind of advice that came from a lifetime of love and experience.

And then there was her kitchen.

Brunilda was an amazing cook, and one of the ways she expressed her love was by making sure that no one ever left her home hungry. Her food was made with love, generosity, and the traditions she carried from Puerto Rico. To those fortunate enough to sit at her table, her cooking was more than a meal—it was an expression of her heart.

And, of course, there was Brunilda's coffee—the best coffee known to man. A cup made by her somehow tasted better simply because it came from her kitchen and was served with her love.

Brunilda also had a beautiful creative spirit. She worked as a seamstress at Eagle Works Clothing for 11 years, where her talent and dedication were reflected in her work. She loved creating and sewing beautiful dresses and gowns, putting care and artistry into every stitch. Her hands were always creating something beautiful, just as her heart was always creating a place where others felt loved.

When she wasn't sewing, Brunilda could often be found tending to her rose garden. There was something fitting about her love for roses: she understood that beautiful things require patience, care, and nurturing. Much like her garden, her family flourished under her loving care.

Brunilda had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. She loved people wholeheartedly and gave herself freely. Her strength, faith, generosity, cooking, sewing, garden, coffee, and especially her love for her family will forever remain part of the memories she leaves behind.

Although her family will deeply mourn her absence, they can find comfort in knowing that her earthly journey has come to an end and that she has been welcomed home into the loving arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that she is reunited with her beloved husband, Victor, and her dear sister, Edna, and that she now rests in the eternal peace promised through her faith.

Her family will carry forward the lessons she taught them: love deeply, stand strong, listen without judgment, care for one another, keep faith, feed those you love, and never forget where you come from.

Brunilda's life was a gift. Her love was her legacy. Her family was her greatest treasure.

May she rest eternally in the peace of Christ, and may Our Blessed Mother hold her close.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
