Betty Jean Richardson, age 81, peacefully departed this life on May 23, 2026, surrounded by the love and legacy she spent a lifetime building. Born on July 9, 1944, in Belzoni, Mississippi, Betty was the beloved daughter of William Richardson and Allene James Richardson.
Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, caregiver, and friend whose life was marked by strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family. Though her formal education ended in junior high school, she possessed a wisdom, determination, and work ethic that enabled her to provide for those she loved and to build a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
As a caregiver by trade, Betty spent much of her life caring for those in need. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her profession and into every aspect of her life. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others without hesitation. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to their well-being.
Betty was preceded in death by her grandson, William Earl Jenkins, daughter, Shirley Jean Richardson Gaston; her son-in-law, Clyde Gaston; her siblings, Larry Richardson, George Washington Winters, Albert Richardson, Clara Maiden, and Bertha Gamble.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Dorothy Gamble and her husband, Leslie Gamble; Decator Richardson and his spouse, Tyson Gaston; Jerome Richardson; and Lekel Richardson.
She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Margaret Richardson, William Richardson Jr., Willie J. Richardson, and Eric Richardson.
Betty’s legacy continues through her large and loving family, including 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Betty found great comfort and strength in her faith. One of her favorite passages of Scripture was Psalm 23, which beautifully reflects the peace and assurance she carried throughout her life:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she now rests in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
