Obituary

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Betty Jean Flood, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in Arlington, Texas, just days before her 90th birthday.

Betty was born on July 16, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph Benson Rodgers and Mary Magdeline Harris. She grew up with a deep appreciation for faith, family, and the simple joys of life—values that would become the foundation of the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.

Betty shared a loving marriage with the love of her life, Melvin Lee Flood, until his passing on June 19, 2019. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, grace, and enduring love.

A devoted homemaker, Betty believed there was no greater calling than caring for her family. She poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt loved, accepted, and well fed. She delighted in cooking for her large family, making every meal an expression of her love. Whether preparing a favorite family recipe or gathering everyone around the table, Betty found joy in serving those she loved.

Her greatest treasure, however, was her relationship with Jesus Christ. Betty faithfully attended Memorial Assembly of God, where she worshiped with joy and raised her children in the knowledge and love of the Lord. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about—it was evident in the kindness she showed, the compassion she extended, and the generous spirit with which she lived. She loved people deeply, never hesitating to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or welcome someone with a warm smile. Her life reflected the love of Christ in countless quiet and meaningful ways.

Betty was known for her elegance and grace. Every day she took pride in presenting herself with care. Her hair was always beautifully styled, her makeup perfectly applied, and her outfits thoughtfully coordinated. She truly embodied the charm and beauty of a Southern belle, carrying herself with confidence, warmth, and dignity wherever she went. She also had a playful sparkle about her, delighting in harmlessly flirting with the gentlemen and sharing laughter with everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She found joy in life's many blessings—shopping for something special, listening to music that lifted her spirit, spending precious time with family, and making lasting memories with those she loved most. Her love knew no boundaries, and she had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel like family.

Betty's greatest legacy lives on through the generations she so dearly loved. She is survived by her beloved children, Sandra Fine, Wesley Flood, and Cindy Ricketson; her cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Christina, Jason, Stefani, Heather, Amy, Kimberly, and Jennifer; 9 Grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and the joyful anticipation of welcoming two great-great-great-grandchildren into the family she treasured so deeply.

Betty's life was one of faithful love, quiet service, unwavering devotion, and joyful generosity. She leaves behind not only generations of family but also countless friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, laughter, and steadfast faith.

While we will miss her beautiful smile, her loving embrace, her delicious meals, her impeccable style, and her joyful spirit, we find comfort in knowing that she has heard the words she longed for all her life and now rests forever in the presence of her Savior.

The family of Betty extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Morada Lake Arlington for the exceptional love, kindness, and care they provided throughout her time there. Betty truly loved her Morada family and cherished the friendships and support she found among the residents and caregivers. Your compassion, dedication, and the joy you brought to her life meant more than words can express. Thank you for making her feel so loved and at home. Betty loved each and every one of you, and your kindness will always be remembered with deep appreciation.

Her legacy of faith, love, grace, and family will continue to shine brightly through every life she touched. Until that glorious day when we are reunited in Christ, Betty Jean Flood will remain forever loved, forever remembered, and forever in our hearts.
