Bert Myers Wallace was born on December 7, 1933, in Washington, Indiana, to William Earl Wallace and Verna Grace Myers Wallace. He grew up on a farm in Southern Indiana and graduated from Wheatland High School before earning his degree from Indiana University in 1954.
Bert spent much of his career in management and accounting. In 1972, he relocated from Tell City, Indiana, to Mineral Wells, Texas, with Can-Tex Industry, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his life, Bert was deeply involved in his community, serving as treasurer for both the Kiwanis Club and the Girls Club, as well as volunteering as a Scout Leader. In 1978, he was honored as one of the Men of the Year by Weatherford College in recognition of his dedication to improving the community. Bert was an active member of Saint Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mansfield, where he also served as an elder.
Bert was known for his kindness, gentleness, and love for his family. He enjoyed coaching his children's softball and baseball teams, leading scouts, camping, woodworking, and visiting national and state parks. A lifelong history enthusiast, he also loved reading. Later in life, he and his wife, JoAnn, enjoyed traveling, attending theater performances, and watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in games and activities. Bert was a proud "Grandaddy."
Bert is survived by his wife of 41 years, JoAnn Wallace; his children, Diana Wallace, Tim Wallace, Beth and Bill Hughes; his grandchildren, Travis and Sarah Hughes, Reid and Cat Hughes, Patrick and Gillian Hughes, Jay Baum, Jeffrey Baum, and Kaley Baum; his great-grandsons, Grayson, Mack, Everett, and Brooks Hughes; daughters-in-law Teresa Baum and Vicki Baum; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Evelyn, and his brothers Earnest, Milton, and Lewis, as well as Jerry Baum and Keith Baum.
