Barbara Alice Williams

Barbara Alice Williams (Lawing) was called home to our Lord on October 12, 2026. Born on June 4, 1930, to Arthur and Foy Lawing in Arlington, Texas. A graduate of the original Arlington High School, where she met the love of her life, Henry “Sonny” Williams. Barbara married Sonny in October 1948 and lived on Center St. for the first several years of their marriage. Barbara is remembered by her grandchildren with her skills as a baker, to quote her granddaughter, Chana, “My Mammaw was Texas through and through. She was a wonderful baker (oh, those chocolate chip cookies!), a perfect hostess, a fisherwoman and loved camping. For years every Halloween, she made caramel apples for all the grandkids, a tradition I’ll always remember.”

A devout Christian whose family helped to establish Park Row Church of Christ, rarely missed a service. Barbara later became a member of Woodland West Church of Christ and regularly watched their services on her tablet. In 1969, Barbara and Sonny bought some lake front property on Cedar Creek Lake. Together, Barbara and Sonny built their lake house, affectionately called a fishing cabin by Barbara. Connie proudly tells everyone that she helped Sonny brick the fireplace. In recent years Barbara would spend her time sitting on the porch of the lake house enjoying the breeze or on the dock with a line in the water.

Aside from being such an avid baker, she also loved to work on her jigsaw puzzles, often completing a 1,000 piece puzzle every week. Barbara was also very accomplished with crocheting, having made a baby blanket for each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was also a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, rarely missing a game on television and an avid watcher of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Barbara retired from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1992 as an Administrative Assistant, through her retirement she was able to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren. Through their marriage, Barbara and Sonny were able to take several trips across the country and spend time with their beloved children, Ronny, David and Connie. Sonny preceded Barbara in death in 2010 and now they are reunited in Heaven.

Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses, Ronny and Julie Williams, David and Cindy Williams, Connie and William Glock, her grandchildren Chana and Dayson Fouts, Sarah Williams, Joshua Williams, Aaron and Ellie Williams, Jeremy and Jamie Williams, Cheri Williams, Tyler and Parker Bynum, Lauren and Quentin Hasten and 14 great grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren expected soon.
