Barbara Allen Martin, lovingly known as Bobbi, Mom, and most treasured of all, Baba, was born on May 3, 1928, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, to David and Elizabeth Allen. She lived a life marked by purpose, passion, intellect, and deep devotion to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love that will be cherished for generations.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Nicholas Martin Sr.; her daughter, Sandy; her parents; and her siblings—Dave Allen, Bill Allen, John Allen, Betty Wheeler, Edith Berg, Mary Lou Williams, Eugenia Bledsoe, and Mabel Smiley.
A lifelong learner, Barbara pursued higher education at Southern Methodist University, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology. Her sharp analytical mind and thoughtful insight shaped not only her professional pursuits but also her deep interest in government policy and cultural issues. As her children grew, Barbara joined her husband in grassroots politics, working tirelessly for conservative causes she believed in. Her dedication and intellect eventually led her to serve as a member of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee, as well as being active in the Dallas County Republican Club.
While her academic and political accomplishments were significant, Barbara’s greatest calling was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and the proud matriarch of a large and close-knit family. She was the cherished mother of her late daughter Sandy (Lonny) Landry and son Nick (Janet) Martin. Her joy multiplied as she became grandmother—Baba—to Lance Landry, Shawn Landry, Kyle Martin, Elizabeth Milstein, Emily Ware, Caleb Martin, and Kelvin Martin, and later to ten great-grandchildren, all of whom knew her by the same beloved name.
Barbara was a spirited and adventurous soul. A true lover of the outdoors, she delighted in swimming, horseback riding, hiking, camping, traveling, and spending time in nature. She lived life intentionally and fully, embracing each day with enthusiasm and joy. Her love for the mountains, horses, and water was passed down to her children and remains part of her enduring legacy.
Above all, Barbara Allen Martin was a woman of heart—fun-loving, strong, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to those she loved. She was the steady center of her family for many years, offering wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit lives on in the lives she touched and the family she so dearly cherished.
She will forever be remembered, honored, and loved.
