Barbara Ann Damron, 84, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on June 7, 2026.
Barbara was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 14, 1941 to Thomas Edward and Ida Lou Dwight. A lifelong advocate for education, a devoted family member, and a woman of Christian faith, Barbara dedicated much of her life to teaching, serving others, and nurturing the relationships she held dear.
Barbara graduated from Pascal High School in 1959 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Howard Payne University. She later received her Master’s degree in Education from North Texas in 1969. Her commitment to education became the foundation of a long and meaningful career in the classroom.
She taught fifth grade in the Fort Worth Independent School District from 1963 to 1971 and continued her teaching career with the Arlington Independent School District from 1978 to 1998. Throughout her years as an educator, Barbara valued the opportunity to help young people learn and grow. Her dedication to the teaching profession extended beyond the classroom through her membership in the National Education Association, the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the Arlington Retired Teachers Association.
Barbara’s love of teaching and service continued well into her retirement. She enjoyed teaching citizenship classes through International Friends and faithfully taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Arlington for many years. A member of First Baptist Church, she treasured her Christian faith and the fellowship of her church community.
Beyond her professional and church commitments, Barbara found joy in art, music, history, and travel. She especially loved cooking for her family, creating opportunities for loved ones to gather and share time together. Scrapbooking was another cherished interest, allowing her to preserve family memories and celebrate the special moments that made a life rich and meaningful.
Above all, Barbara valued family, faith, and education. Her life reflected a deep appreciation for learning, a desire to serve others, and a love for the traditions and memories that connect generations. She leaves behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and cherished family moments that will continue to be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived by her children, Greg Harris and Joanna Harris Tarr; her stepchildren, Denise Holder and Mark Damron, and Mark’s wife, Debbie Damron; seven grandchildren, Jeff Arnold, Jennifer Arnold, Jordan Holder, Austin Damron, Aaron Damron, Tucker Tarr, and Claudia Tarr; and four great-grandchildren, Lennon, Phoenix, Jane, and Ben.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Edward and Ida Lou Dwight; her siblings; and her spouse, David Damron.
Barbara’s life touched many through her years of teaching, her faithful service to her church, and her devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but the lessons she shared, the memories she created, and the faith she held dear will remain a lasting part of the lives she leaves behind.
A service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on November 14, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Jermyn, Texas later that afternoon.
May Barbara be welcomed into God’s eternal peace, and may her family find comfort in the love she gave, the lives she influenced, and the memories that will forever keep her close.
