Anita “June” Lockaby Pannell was born on June 17, 1935, to Willie and Clarence Lockaby. She entered her heavenly home on May 7, 2026, just 42 days shy of her 91st birthday.
On April 23, 1953, June married the love of her life, Elmo Pannell. Together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage until Elmo’s passing in May 2021.
June was a devoted Christian wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was affectionately known as Mother, Mom, and Momma June, but the titles she treasured most were Mamma and Great-Mamma to her five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. If June ever gave you one of her big hugs and told you “I Love You” you knew it was unconditional.
Throughout her life, June faithfully kept the books for the family business, while also dedicating herself to her family and home. She was a wonderful cook, baker, crafter, artist, antique shopper and garage sale bargain hunter. She loved playing cards and dominoes- especially when she won! June was also an avid reader until failing eyesight made it difficult for her to enjoy one of her favorite pastimes.
June was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a devoted Christian woman who lived her life in service to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo; her parents, Willie and Clarence Lockaby; her brothers Bill and Martin Lockaby; and her sister Peggy Compton.
She is survived by her sister, Jo Ann Jenkins; her three children Ricky Pannell (Ken), Monte Pannell and Becky Nicks; five grandchildren, Matthew Nicks, Jessica McKinney (Jeff), Brandon Pannell, Kyndle Todd and Kensey Clifton; and three great-grandchildren Reese Shaw, Ryker McKinney and Conor McKinney.
She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that one day we will enter those pearly gates and find you standing there with your arms open wide! We Love You Mother!
