Anita Carol Jones, nee Miller, was born in Perryville, Mo., near St. Louis, on October 30, 1940, to Berl and Juanita Miller. Carol, a devout and devoted Christian, treasured daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin, partner and friend passed away on 8 July 2026, at the age of 85. She lived an incredible life defined by faith, integrity, and the highest moral character. A true gentlewoman, she provided unwavering loyalty, understanding, and guidance to her family. She turned many a wrong into a right, she was a hero to our family in the fight.
She was preceded in death by, the love of her life and husband Clair F "Bud" Jones, youngest son Jay Shoemake, and the father of her two sons Don Shoemake. She was also preceded by her father and Mother, Berl and Juanita Miller, who owned and operated Miller Funeral Home where Carol was raised in Farmington, Mo. and graduated from Farmington, HS. Growing up in a small town and literally living in their apartment above the business. From the beginning of her life that experience opened up a whole new world for living...and she did.
She would go on to attend College in Columbia, Mo. at the Stephens College, with her passion in the world of fashion. One of the early Dallas pioneers working in the apparel industry representing lines for Halston, Oscar De La Renta, Ralph Lauren and many of the top designers in their heydays at the Dallas Apparel Mart. Carol, made a name for herself and finished her career working as the CEO of JCPenney's, "Secretary."
Her dream was to fly off to Paris and be a Designer, but marriage and children came first. She was the mom who always kept her children dressed fashionably and to the "Nines" especially at church. In her first decade of marriage, Carol would drag two young boys, to 3 States and 8 different towns...before landing in Lewisville, Texas.
Bud and Carol decided Granbury was the place for them to "retire." They built a new home on the 8th Hole Tee Box (the perfect warm up hole) at DeCordova Bend, a decorator's dream house. One did not have to be a McKenzie Childs fan to see and feel the inspiration, as guests would leave with lots of smiles. She always added beauty, grace and kindness which was admired by all.
Carol was also a world traveler, bravely and arm in arm with her sweet sister Barbara, took trips we all would dream of. They were more than sisters...they were best friends. And had the best stories. Carol had a habit of not quitting on anyone. A true Unconditional love. Sister, Mother, Aunt and friend we will all miss her forever.
She is survived by her loving sister and husband, Barbara and Bennett Hall, from Buford, Georgia, son Jeff Shoemake, Neice Babette Hughes, Nephew Bob Hughes, Grandchildren, Matthew Shoemake, Natalie Shoemake and Jacob Shoemake.
Love and Forever Amen
