“Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23

With hearts both heavy with sorrow and full of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Alma Jean Reed, who was called home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2025, at the age of 75, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Born on June 14, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late John Henry Brown and Jessie Mae Brown, Alma grew up with a foundation deeply rooted in faith, family, and music. She went to Burkburnett High School, where her radiant spirit and unmistakable voice began to make their lasting impression on all who knew her.

On her life’s journey, Alma walked hand-in-hand with her beloved husband, James B. Reed, for 59 beautiful years. Their union was a shining example of enduring love and God-centered partnership. Together they raised two devoted children: Anthony B. Reed (Carla Sanders-Reed) and Angela J. Reed-Adekunle (Adedayo Adekunle), who carry forward her strength, compassion, and legacy.

Alma's joy was multiplied through her beloved grandchildren: Anthony B. Reed, Dorian N. Smith, Amber L. Smith, Jeremiah A. Smith (Jaylyn Banks), Amelia A. Reed, April R. Reed, and Jacob O. Adekunle. She poured her heart into them, sharing her wisdom, love of God, and cherished family recipes that filled both hearts and homes.

A gifted professional gospel singer and passionate entrepreneur, Alma used her God-given voice to uplift and inspire. For over two decades, she was a devoted member of the Seasoned Saints Community Choir of Dallas, and for more than 30 years, a faithful servant and worshipper at First Baptist Arlington. Through every note she sang, Alma testified to the goodness of God and led others to His grace.

She leaves behind her loving siblings Helen L. Anderson and Donald R. Brown, and joins in eternal rest her dear siblings Mattye Mae Marks, Catherine Brown, Lena Barnes, David Brown, and her beloved Son James B. Reed Jr., who preceded her in death.

Alma Jean Reed was a woman of strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. She had a heart for people, a home filled with warmth and music, and hands that cooked countless meals from scratch and gathered the family together. She adored collecting antiques, baking, and sharing the message of Christ in everything she did. Alma was the glue that bound generations of her family in love and unity. She leaves behind a legacy of praise, perseverance, and profound love.

While we mourn her physical absence, we rejoice in knowing she now sings in Heaven’s choir, wrapped in everlasting peace. Her melody will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched.

A celebration of life service will be held to honor Alma’s life and legacy at First Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas.

Until we meet again, rest well, sweet Alma. You have run the race, fought the good fight, and kept the faith.
