Allen Dryer
Campbell Jr.
July 17, 1923 – February 19, 2026
Allen Dryer Campbell Jr., M.D., age 102, passed peacefully from this life on February 19, 2026, in Mansfield, Texas. Born on July 17, 1923, in Dallas, Texas, Allen lived a century defined by service, faith, devotion to family, and unwavering dedication to his calling.
He was the beloved son of Allen D. Campbell Sr. and Eva Coffee, whose guidance and values shaped the character of the man he would become. A proud Texan through and through, Allen graduated from Forest Avenue High School before continuing his education at Baylor University. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from Southwestern Medical School, answering a calling to heal that would define the course of his long and meaningful life.
Dr. Campbell became a respected and longtime ophthalmologist in Dallas, where for decades he cared for his patients with skill, gentleness, and deep compassion. To many, he was more than a physician — he was a steady hand, a comforting voice, and a trusted friend during moments of uncertainty.
His life was also marked by courageous service to his country. A proud Navy veteran of the Korean War, Allen served for ten years in the United States Navy. As a Medical Officer aboard the USS Haven, he brought healing and hope to those in the midst of conflict. He attained the rank of Lieutenant and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal in recognition of his faithful and honorable service. He was a true patriot who loved his country deeply and served it with humility and strength.
Above all, Allen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared a lifelong love with his cherished wife, Betty Jo Campbell, who preceded him in death. Together they built a family rooted in faith, resilience, and love.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy and spouse Howard Lovelace; his granddaughter Jessica and spouse Chris Walker of Jacksonville, Texas; and second granddaughter along with nine great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of integrity and kindness. He was preceded in death by his daughters Kathryn Starkey and Susan Murphy, whose memories he held close to his heart.
Allen was a man of deep and abiding faith — a true man of God whose life reflected quiet strength, grace, and gratitude. Whether on the golf course enjoying a sunny Texas afternoon, in his medical practice restoring sight, or in prayer giving thanks for his many blessings, he lived each day with purpose.
To know Allen Dryer Campbell Jr. was to witness a life well lived — one marked by honor, compassion, devotion, and steadfast faith. His century of life leaves behind a legacy woven into the lives of all who loved him. Though he will be profoundly missed, his example endures in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him.
His life reminds us that service, love, and faith are the truest measures of a man.
