Albert Wayne Smith Jr, 76, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Mansfield, TX.
Celebration of Life: 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Wade Family Funeral Home.
Wayne was born on September 10, 1946 in St. Louis, MO to Albert Wayne Smith Sr and Opal Anne Joseph Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy and received a degree in Finance from the University of Maryland. Wayne was a successful banker, served in the Optimist and Rotary Clubs, and was on the Public Planning and Zoning Committee in Arlington.
He loved sports and was an avid Texas Longhorns, St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Redskins fan. He loved playing golf and enjoyed pool parties. Wayne enjoyed traveling and learning about new cultures and customs. He loved going to Hawaii and would travel there once a year. He also loved traveling to the Dominican Republic.
Wayne was extremely social and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. 30A in Florida was a special place for his family to make many great memories. He had a really good heart and cared deeply about the welfare of others. His caring attitude made him a great neighbor. He was very wise and gave sage advice. Wayne was encouraging and was a great mentor to the many people he encountered. He was hardest on the people he loved the most because he believed in them. His presence will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by father Albert Wayne Smith Sr and mother Opal Anne Smith.
Survivors: Sister Dianne Crilley and her husband Frank Crilley of Virginia, wife Opal Janell Smith, son Steven Wayne Smith and wife Shauna Smith with children Sydney and Sophie of Aledo and daughter Lori Michelle Smith-Bridges with husband Justin Bridges of Arlington.
For those able to attend the Celebration of Life on June 8th at 12:00, please consider wearing burnt orange (any orange is fine) or white. We know that Wayne will be smiling down on us as we sing the Eyes of Texas at the conclusion of the ceremony. There will be refreshments, sandwiches and Longhorn cookies at the funeral home for those in need of nourishment following the ceremony before departing for the internment at DFW National Cemetery.
