Alan Hodges Barbee was born June 2, 1957, in Tomball, Texas, to C.B and Wanda Barbee. He passed away February 11, 2026, at the age of 68 in Mansfield, Texas.
Alan will lie in state from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas, for anyone who would like to come by and pay their respects. The family will receive friends at 9am on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at University Baptist Church, 2720 Wabash Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76109, with the service to follow at 10am. He will be laid to rest at Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Ricky.
Those left with cherished memories of Alan are his loving wife Cara; son, Nelson, and wife Carly Barbee; daughters Caitlyn, and husband Josh Hayter; Alyssa, and husband Scott Kossuth; and his 11 grandchildren: Bennett, Wesley, Everett and Josie Barbee; Eli, Mason and Arya Hayter; Kael, Thatcher, Lincoln and Cannon Kossuth. He also leaves behind his brother, Randy Barbee and wife Ina; sister, Leah Barbee; and a large extended family - including his beloved Southfield church family and many friends too numerous to name.
Alan graduated from Bronte High School in 1975 and went on to receive a business degree from Texas Tech University. In 1984, he married Cara McCoy of Carrolton, Texas, and they enjoyed 43 years of marriage and ministry together. Alan and Cara moved to Fort Worth, Texas, for him to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he obtained a Master of Divinity. He was ordained in 1987, and served in various pastoral roles, including Pastor of Vashti Baptist Church in Vashti, Texas. Alan felt the Lord lead him into bi-vocational ministry and, in 1999, became a co-pastor at Southfield Christian Fellowship in Arlington, Texas. For 26 years, he preached–shepherding and cherishing his church family. He held numerous job titles throughout his 28-year-career with Texas Trust Credit Union, but served as Senior Vice President of Facilities most recently. While his peers reached retirement, Alan pursued a doctoral degree. In 2024, at the age of 66, he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. It was an accomplishment he relished. He planned to use this degree to equip bivocational pastors and raise up church leaders – both locally and globally.
Alan loved God’s Word – he read it, meditated on it and memorized entire books from it. He loved people and conversation and never missed an opportunity to connect with someone – to listen, encourage and throw in a joke or two.
He loved his family deeply and often rearranged his own busy schedule to attend school functions and sporting events to cheer on his grandchildren.
Alan loved to grill and invite people over for meals. He and Cara used their gift of hospitality to welcome hundreds of people into their home.
A voracious reader, he was proud of his home library and quick to lend a book.
Alan’s community will long mourn his passing, but we rejoice that he is now in the presence of his Savior. He will be remembered for his integrity, his joy and his leadership. But most importantly, we will remember his desire to see God’s Word transform hearts and minds.
