Obituary for Betty Petty

Betty Petty
Betty Ellen Wilson Petty passed at home surrounded by family on Monday, August 7, 2017. She was 87 years young.

Funeral: Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.
Visitation: Friday, August 11th , 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Betty was born on May 29, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas to Mildred Gertrude McGee and Wendall Holmes Wilson. She was a 5th generation resident of Tarrant County, growing up in River Oaks. She graduated from North Side High School in 1947. On February 28, 1948, she married Howard Royce Petty and they made Arlington their home. Betty retired from the Arlington ISD after 30 years of service as a bookkeeper for the school cafeterias. She traveled to Europe, Canada and extensively coast to coast in the US. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Swingtime Square Dancers, Arlington Quilt Guild and Fort Worth Embroidery Guild. Sewing for herself and family was her passion and she was a perfectionist in all of her work. She has been awarded several blue ribbons at local Quilt Shows and the State Fair of Texas. Her youngest son, Kenneth, is Autistic and she made it her life’s mission to keep him active, employed and at her side always. They both were avid Ranger baseball fans holding season tickets for over 20 years traveling to baseball spring training and to some of the out-of-town games. She had an abundance of friends and rarely missed visiting with her family. Betty’s philosophy for life, “It’s better to laugh than cry and live today to it’s fullest, for we do not know what tomorrow brings.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, her brothers and sister-in-laws, Wendall and Monzetta and Edward and Mary

Survivors: daughter, Nancy Adams, Arlington; sons, Mel Petty and wife Veva, Little Rock and Kenneth, Arlington; grandchildren, Mike Adams and wife Carrie, Greenville, Laura Nowell and husband Aaron, Waco, Chris Adams and wife, Mary, Arlington, Brad Adams and wife Rebecca, Washington DC, Matt Petty and wife Dani, Little Rock, Gretchen McKee and husband Joe, Little Rock; eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
